Evelyn Arizpe

Evelyn Arizpe is a Senior Lecturer in Creativity Culture and Faith in the University of Glasgow. Her main research interests include children’s literature and literacies (particularly in relation to picturebooks); young adult literature; Latin America, migration and intercultural communities. She is also a Programme Leader for the MEd in Children's Literature and Literacies in the School of Education.

Evelyn Arizpe is particularly interested in children's meaning-making strategies in relation to verbal-visual interaction. She has delivered lectures, seminars and keynotes in her areas of interest, both in the UK and internationally, to researchers, practitioners and policy-makers. Her work also involves international collaboration, especially with Spain and Latin America, but also with colleagues in the USA and elsewhere.

She led the international project Visual Journeys with a research award from the United Kingdom Literacy Association (UKLA). This project investigated immigrant children's responses to wordless picture-books and graphic novels and the ways in which they create meaning and narrative through their own multimodal texts. The book that resulted from this project was awarded the Edward B. Fry Literacy Award from the Literacy Research Association in 2015.
