Polish literary translator, essay writer, historian of ideas. Vice-President since 1999 of the Polish PEN Club and its President since 2010 till now (following Władysław Bartoszewski). MA from the Warsaw University Institute of Sociology, PhD from the Warsaw University Institute of Polish Literature.
His translatory debut took place in 1975. Pomorski translates Russian prose and poetry (Dostoyevsky, Platonov, Remizov, Zamyatin, Akhmatova, Bunin, Khlebnikov, Mandelshtam and others), English poetry (Eliot, Yeats, the English romanticists), German poetry (Goethe’s Faust parts I and II, Schiller, Hölderlin, Novalis, Hofmannsthal, Rilke, Trakl, poets from the first half of the 20th century), from Belarusian, Ukrainian (Anthology of Ukrainian Modernist Poetry, Serhiy Zhadan poems) and from Lithuanian.
