PARASKA PLYTKA-HORYTSVIT. OVERCOMING GRAVITY. The exhibition opening

We invite you for the opening of the exhibition Overcoming Gravity. Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit, which will be held on October, 17 at 6:30 pm at the Mystetskyi Arsenal.

Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit (1927–1998) was a Hutsul artist, writer, philosopher, ethnographer, and photographer who lived in the Carpathian village of Kryvorivnia.
She wrote prose and poetry, created self-made books, drew, photographed, painted icons and pictures. She mastered the whole photo process all by herself and captured the surrounding reality. In thousands of photos, she documented the lives of residents and guests of Kryvorivnia, church holidays and folk rites, Hutsul daily routine, and Carpathian landscapes.
The creative heritage of Paraska Plytka-Horytsvit contains over 4 thousand photographs, about 500 handcrafted books, hundreds of graphic artworks, sculptures and vytynankas (decorative paper cutting pieces).

Overcoming Gravity is a story about Plytka-Horytsvit’s own universe, which existed on the verge of reality and fantasy, about the courage to be free in spite of circumstances, about the ability to travel without leaving your native village, about dreams and the desire to create. It is a journey through the world of spiritual images, fantasy texts, ethnographic records, imaginary landscapes and documentary photographs.
The exhibition opens on October, 17 at 6:30 pm.
Free admission on October, 17 and 18.
The exhibition will run until January 19, 2020.
