Mystetskyi Arsenal in 2023. Annual Report.
The Mystetskyi Arsenal publishes a report on its activities in 2023.
Despite Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the work of the institution did not stop in 2023. The team of the Mystetskyi Arsenal responded to all posed challenges. Despite the fact that the year was difficult, we managed to implement and present many relevant projects.
The International Book Arsenal Festival took place for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and in September 2023, children and their parents had the opportunity to spend their time interestingly and usefully at the NEOsvitnii Arsenal festival.
In addition to the festivals, throughout the year the Mystetskyi Arsenal was greeting visitors with long-term exhibition projects—here the exhibitions of contemporary Ukrainian art Heart of Earth, Forms of Presence and Coexisting with Darkness are meant.
“The interest in the Ukrainian voice in 2023 made it possible to present various projects and views and to share the Ukrainian experience at all the most important literary venues of Europe. Similarly, in Ukraine, Book Arsenal 2023—the first Ukrainian book festival of this scale since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—became an important place for reflections upon common experience. In general, 2023 for the Mystetskyi Arsenal was a year of many international partnerships and new initiatives, when the mission outlined back in 2022—to speak for Ukraine with the Ukrainian voice in the international arena—occupied a huge place in our program activities,” Olesia Ostrovska-Liuta, the Director General of the Mystetskyi Arsenal.

• 3 exhibitions in the Old Arsenal building (Heart of Earth, Forms of Presence, Coexisting with Darkness);
• 2 festivals (Book Arsenal, NEOsvitnii Arsenal);
• 47,131 visitors to exhibitions and educational events;
• 1,013,683 online visitors;
• 3 published electronic editions;
• 6 exhibitions and 3 multidisciplinary events of the Laboratory of Contemporary Art;
• Resumed work of the Literary Laboratory;
• 180 educational events, discussions, performances, workshops, excursions and family events.
Recalling and analyzing the year 2023, we express our gratitude to partners, donors, researchers, authors who got involved in our numerous events. Such cooperation and solidarity give the Mystetskyi Arsenal team strength and inspiration in our important mission—to remain the support for Ukrainian society.
