How can we incorporate notions of degrowth when masterplanning the future of our cities?
Population shrinkage is a reality in many post-industrial cities across the world, as well as in Ukraine. METASITU, with its Degrowth Initiative, challenges the urban notion of ‘growth’ in shrinking settlements, deeply engrained in capitalist rhetorics, to start a conversation that would seek alternatives for providing well being to its citizens.
How can we embrace degrowth? What do we preserve? What do we let go? How do we relate to ruins?
METASITU will present their work, talking about the methodologies they use to shift the paradigm of growth and their work in the field of urban degrowth in Ukraine.
