The group Shapka (The Hat) was founded in 2006 by Kseniia Halchenko, Olesia Sekeresh, and Oleksandra Tokarieva, the students of the Transcarpathian Art Institute. The name of the group is a game of meanings: on the one hand, it is an everyday object, an accessory; on the other hand, a “hat” is a title, a summary before the main text.
The painting A Girl with Ice Cream was presented in the group’s project Peace. Friendship. Chewing Gum (Mystetskyi Arsenal, May 2011) that explored the interaction of internal human experiences and external stereotypical patterns of behaviour.
