On February 20th, Vova Vorotniov literally shot a film on the Independence square in a few hours, starting with a burning House of Trade Unions at the moment when shooting on Instytutska street had started. So, he recorded the moments in which the most terrible events of that winter took place, and it is precisely this coincidence in time that is important in this series. Indexed patterns of ornaments of holes on the protesters’ shields—an irregular pattern of holes that distinguished self-made shields from the industrially manufactured shields of Berkut—complement the series. They seem to be lace visors through which the protesters looked at the world and at the enemy.
