The monumentalization of the heroes-defenders is a fixed and legitimated form of historical fairness in the post-Soviet consciousness. For Bilyk, as a sculptor in the third generation, work on monuments is a family business and part of the history of his family. However, the modernity has new tasks and challenges for the sculptor. Therefore, the newest monument is being modified, it turns into an unfinished “piece of the great monument.” Who knows, is it a monument to a new hero-defender, who is currently in the zone of fighting or the fragments of the old “irrelevant” now monument? In any case, for the author, it is an independent memorial sign that best reflects the present.
