The diary format of almost instantaneous reaction to the event was for the artist perhaps the only way to perceive and digest the reality around. The fragmentary, variable, dangerous and painful reality. However, as in any diary, you should not look for linear history, accuracy or objectivity in the drawings by Ralko. On the contrary, drawings from the Kyiv Diary are in a certain opposition to the document, because they also contain a very subjective personal view on Ukrainian revolutionary and military events, the statement of events itself, as well as a mixture of her and others’ reflections, rumors, myths, fears, hopes, foretastes, associated with these events.
