Andrey Kurkov

curator of a special program "Where to Put an Alien Historical Experience?"

Andrey Kurkov is a famous Ukrainian prose writer, journalist and scriptwriter. He is the author of 13 novels and 5 books for children. His scripts became the basis for more than 20 feature films and documentaries, and his books were translated into 36 languages.

He was trained as a professional Japanese translator. Kurkov worked as an editor of the Dnipro publishing house, a scriptwriter at the Dovzhenko Film Studios, taught at the Bell College (Cambridge, England). Since 1988, he has been a member of the English PEN club. Kurkov is also a member of the Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine (since 1993) and the National Writers’ Union of Ukraine (since 1994). Since 1998, he has been a member of the European Film Academy. Since 1998, he has been a permanent member of the jury of the European Film Academy Felix Prize. In 2012, he was awarded the Golden Writer of Ukraine Award.

This year, within the framework of the Book Arsenal Festival, Andrey Kurkov is curating a special program titled Where to Put an Alien Historical Experience?, which combines the desire to convey little-known or local moments of the past to the future and today’s reader.
